Just because I'm doing watercolors doesn't mean that I'm eschewing the computer's help to make my art. I modelled up the background beams in a 3D program so that I could get a good idea of how the perspective would look on them. And I don't think that I could have drawn the checker-board freehand without a little help. I do all of my color tests and thumbnails in Photoshop too, where it's a lot easier to try out different things before arriving at a final color scheme. Lastly, it's become part of my process to post the works in progress online to get feedback from artist friends. It's been a big help to have other, experienced eyes looking over the paintings, especially the parts that I've overlooked!
