Week ending August 11th. Zachary is now six months old!
For his half-year birthday, we went down to L.A. to spend some time with aunts Lois and Judi
and to see Bubbe and Zaide - Talia's grandparetns, Zach's great-grandparents.
Here are some of the hilights:

Lois and Judi have a heated pool, so Zach got his first try at swimming...
Or at least being in a pool with Daddy supporting him!

And afterwards, it's towel-off time with Mommy...

...drying off in the sun...

...and hanging out by the pool with Nana.

Lots of fun time spent with Bubbe!

And with Lois, too:

And with Nana and Gramps:

Zachary enjoys his new toys, like Emily the Mole, a gift from Bubbe and Zaide, and a musical cube from Lois and Judi.

Week ending August 18th. Lots of fun stuff in the past week... Going to the Farmer's Market
to hear Scott and Mike play, Gabe and Sarah's housewarming which included fun time spend with Elenor
(Molly and Marty's girl) and Xander (Laura and Rick's.) But somehow very few of the photos
from any of those evens came out any good. So I present you with two measly photos this week...
Oh, well... no reason to post dreck, right?

A tired Zach gets held by Erin at the Walnut Creek Farmer's Market, while Mike sings in the background.

And Zach in a good mood as we played on the bed this morning:

...That's all!

Week ending August 25th. Zachary is just about 7 months old!

Talia is sitting in Zacahry's bedroon doorway playing with baby, and he's just being so cute! She is too.

Zachary is finally able to sit up on his own for long stretches of time without our holding him up.
This opens up a whole new world of toys we've been saving for this developmental step,
using a high-chair, and using the bouncy-swing! These aren't the best pictures of the latter
but he loves bouncing in it so much, it's difficult to get an unblurred shot.

And speaking of toys and swings and such that Zach has to hit a certain age and developemntal level to use,
last week, a giant crate arrived from Bali, Indonesia, a carousel animal sent by my Dad as a gift for Zach.
It's called a 'Gajamina.' 'Gaja' is Indonesian for 'elephant,' and we can only assume that
'mina' means 'gigantic mermaid.' The base lets the entire Gajamina rock forwards and back.
As you can see, Zach's not quite at the age where he can safely use it,
it might be a few weeks still. But as everyone's been curious about it, here it is:

Week ending September 2nd.

Last week we mentioned that Zach was sitting and playing with new toys, but didn't show any of them.
So here's Zach in his new "play area," a large soft mat on the floor covered with every quilt he's been given
and lots of new (to him) toys, including the giraffes that you put rings onto and the chewable octopus.
(Well, anything these day's is chewable if you're Zachary.)

Here's another photo from the same series, but I think it's cool because it looks like one of those shots
where someone holds the camera out to take a picture of themselves. Doesn't it look like that's what he's doing?

Zachary is also starting to eat solid foods, as we've mentioned before.
The thing is, he doesn't like for us to feed him as much as for him to feed himself.
We try to compromise by giving him an empty spoon, which he loves to hold and shove into his mouth,
and then we try to feed him with the other one. But on this particular night,
Zachary wanted both spoons for himself to use with the sweet potatoes.

Today we went to Oaklan'd Art & Soul Festival. Lots of live music, though we had to back way far away
from the stage where Luce (an SF-based rock band) was playing in order for the music not to be
too loud for Zach. Later on, as we wandered around looking at crafts and stuff, we took this picture of our happy guy..

Week ending September 15th.

Zach continues to eat solid foods... at least when we let him "feed himself,"
which entails him grabbing the spoon, usually in the food-filled bowl, and glopping it all over his face.
He does manage to get the bowl into his mouth, but by that point the majority of the food is in his hands,
on his chin, or on his bib.

He still loves the Octopus toy too. I know it's really similar to a shot from last update, but it's such a cute shot!

Mornings we all hang out in our big bed upstairs, eating breakfast, reading the paper, and playing with Zach..

Doesn't he look so cute and innocent?

Ha, it was just a ruse! He was merely acting cute because he had an ulterior motive:
He wanted me to come closer so that he could do this!

Daddy has yummy glasses (which often need cleaning these days!)

Week ending August 22nd.

Yes, Zachary is still eating solids, which makes for no end of silly pictures. He likes green beans.

And here he is with Mommy:

Sorry, not too much exciting this week. We'll be gone to the eas coast for everyone's weddings over the next 2 weekends
so there won't be any updates for about three weeks... but hopefully lots of photos when we return!

Week ending October 14th.

We're back from our vacation! To make up for the recent lack of photo updates, we now present
the picture extravaganza documenting Zach's epic two-wedding voyage to the East Coast:

This is a photo from just before the trip, but who could resist a face like this?
Come one, give Zachary a nice big hug!

Okay, so on to the East coast: My Father's wedding took place at a summer camp up in Hebron, Hew Hampshire.
The day of the wedding was spent around the camp, hanging out, playing games, and enjoying the sun.
Here's Dad and my sister Carrie and I enjoying time spent with Zach.

Dad's German friend Oota had a 10-year old daughter Hannah, who speaks no English.
However, she had a fine time with Zach, who likewise speaks no English.

Later that day, the ceremony itself was held across the street, on the shore of a lake.
Here's Talia and Zach dressed up nice and warm...

...and here's Dad and Annie getting married!

After the wedding, we drove down to Massachusettes to spend time with more of my family,
my Aunt Amy (my mother's sister,) her husband Arnie (not pictured,) and her daughter, my cousin Samantha.

This was their first time getting to meet Zach too.

...as well as Zachary's first time getting to play with kitty cats.
This is Bud, one of Amy and Arnie's three cats.

We also got to see a lot of friends on this trip. Here's Jason, who I met out in California but he's since moved to Boston.

And one of my best friends growing up, Marty, who had just purchased a new home in Cambridge.

Once we made it to Washington D.C., we also spent time with Talia's best friend Erika,
who just moved there to teach at George Mason University. Here's us hanging out at the National
Air and Space Museum. (Can't you tell?)

We also got to see Erika's fiancee Tammy, and the five of us went out for a fun dinner
at Phillip's, an all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant on the water in Washington,
which Erika went to a lot growing up.

We also needed some down time, so we spent some afternoons back at the hotel in Georgetown
reading the Washington Post

and just being generally pensive.

We also got to visit the Washington Zoo with Gramps. Zachary liked the big aniamls that were easy to see,
like the panda and the elephants, as well as the brightly colored birds.

At the rehearsal dinner for Talia's brother Jeremy's wedding, hosted by Don and Marcia, there were no shortage of
people who wanted to play with and hold Zachary. Here's it was uncle Jim's turn.

And here's us at the wedding itself! Aren't we having a blast?!

Zachary looked quite dapper in his collared striped shirt and blonde curls
(and even received a couple of marriage proposals himself!)

Talia looked beautiful, too.

And once again, no shortage of volunteers to hold Zach. Here's Talia's cousin Leslie
who lives in New York and got to meet Zach for the first time on this trip.

And that's it for our big trip.... More from home later!

The rest of October, 2007

Zach is now 9 months old. Our picture taking hasn't slowed down so much as our ability to take good pictures, it seems.
But we'll share what we've got:

Lois came to town recently, and She, Marcia, Talia, Zachary and I went to lunch in Alameda.
Zachary inspected his nice sweater (a gift from a friend of Mom and Lou Applebaum's.)
Talia likes this shot because it's a very typical pose of Zachary exploring.

Later that day, he got to play a bit too:

For Halloween this year, Adam and Erica's aprty had the theme of 'The Crrepy Cuisine Cafe.'
We came dressed as a Vampire Chef and a Vampire Waitress ('Blood Flo.') Zachary came dressed as the main course!
It's hard to read the cuts of meat on his outfit, but they include the Rump roast, Baby Back Ribs, Baby Front Ribs, Tender Loin, etc.

Here's the whole gang together:

It's okay to dress Zachary up as meat for a party with friends, but we also had another party to attend,
one at which we didn't know anyone. So we opted for a less scandalous costume: Zachary joined us as a little Vampire.

We still have one more Halloween party to attend, so maybe we'll get even better shots...
