update: August 10th, 2008 I just picked up the August issue of ImagineFX magazine today: They've got a nice article on humor in fantasy art, featuring a nice painting spread by Bobby Chiu and a bit of an interview with me, including a shot of Wage Slave and a photo. They even got the photo right this time. (I'm still a little weirded out about the time they ran someone else's photo and labeled it me, glad that's been solved!) Big web page update today: I've added three portfolio pages showcasing different skill-sets that I have to offer. There is a page each for Art Direction, Visual Development (aka concept art), and 3D and Game Art. If you're interested in my work, please visit the appropriate page, and you'll also find the relevant resume linked on each page. Thanks for stopping by! update: August 5th, 2008 Well, it was a good run, but Meez - the start-up I was Art Director at for three years and helped launch - had to lay me off this past week. I am now back on the job market again. If you have any need of a talented Art Director with experience in internet development, AAA video-game titles, best-selling childrens education software, and award-winning illustration, please drop me a line. I'll happily accept any leads or suggestions you wish to share!
update: June 14th, 2008 More big contest news! Winners were announced for another contest I entered: the latest CGSociety Challenge. The theme this time around was alien/human interaction, which as many of you likely know is a dream category for me. They only gave out two illustration awards - Master and Excellence - and I am honored to have won the latter. You can read more about the contest here, and see my winning entry 'Adorable Alien' in my portfolio. update: May 31st, 2008 Big excitement this week! They announced the winners of the Dominance War III character design competition, and out of hundreds of entries worldwide, my design won 14th place (which is actually a lot cooler and more impressive than it may sound. Or at least I think so.) Anyhow, you can see the full entry at the bottom of the Portfolio 2 page. update: May 11th, 2008 Another CGSociety contest has come and gone and, regardless of the outcome, I got a great painting out of it so I'm happy. You can see my latest, 'Adorable Alien, On the Portfolio page. update: February 23rd, 2007 Some of my work appears in the March 2008 issue of ImagineFX magazine, part of a large birthday tribute to Frank Frazetta. I also happen to be interviewed in an upcoming issue of Fantasy Art Magazine, a Chinese publication. Or, if you just can't wait and want to see an interview with me right now, Henning Ludvigsen and Natascha Roeoesli have finally opened up their web site Pixelbrush.net, full of articles, tutorials, and interviews, including an interview with me. I've been an active emmber on the Pixelbrush Forums for almost a year, and it's exciting to see Tascha and Henning launch thier site after putting so much work into it. Lastly, if it's new art you'd like to see, I've been posting a lot lately on my blog. There's a pile of concept pieces for sceience fiction cats and dogs, and the aforementioned Frazetta piece from ImagineFX. update: December 23rd, 2007 I've updated the downloads page with desktops of 'Wage Slave' and 'Wandering Monsters.' I've also got some new, smaller pieces that you can see on my blog. update: October 25th, 2007 HUGE update today: Not just one but three new paintings added! There's a new watercolor ('Rhinos in Bed') on the Childrens' Art page, and two new pieces on the Portfolio page. One of them ('Wandering Monsters') I just finished this week for the aforementioned CGSociety Challenge, while the other one ('Troll Crossing') was finished months ago for an article in the December 2007 issue of ImagineFX magazine. I was asked not to show the piece too early, but now that the magazine is nearly out, consider this a nice preview. If you purchase the magazine, you get an entire walk-though of its creation. update: July 8th, 2007 Just got my copy of Ballistic Publishing's Expose 5, which features 'Farewell Kiss' in the 'whimsical' category, which was pretty cool. Also, the latest issue of ImagineFX magazine has an article on "100 New Ways to Paint." Not only am I one of the advice-giving artists therein, along with a bunch of friends of mine, but there is a little section on me and my brief-as-humanly-possibly tips on getting a job in illustration. Another CGSociety Challenge has started. The theme for this one is 'Strange Behavior.' If you'd like to see my entry, which will be progressing slowly but surely over the next four months, check it out here. update: May 14th, 2007 No new art today, just news: Farewell Kiss is going to be featured in Ballistic Publishing's latest collection of digital artwork, Expose 5. Also, the latest issue - June 2007 - of ImagineFX magazine includes an article on going back to art basics, and I have a whole (little) section on top ten color tips. But if you just want to see more pictures, you'll have to check out my blog, which I'm updating a lot more frequently thatn this site right now. update: January 30th, 2007 My first big update of the new year also brings the best news (at least for me!) On January 27th, my wife and I very excitedly welcomed our new son, Zachary George Dashow, into the world. But hey, I'm not just posting it here in text. You can see the watercolor painting birth announcement on the Childrens' Art page. update: December 21st, 2006 A new picture up on the Childrens' Art page! It's a new watercolor, of a boy and a monster off for a jaunt around the jungle. Very cute. It's for my as-yet-unborn baby boy's room (he's due in just under seven weeks, this is his birthday present!) Happy holidays and a great New Year to all! update: September 30th, 2006 I started a sketch-blog! Hopefully it will compel me to sketch and post more often. Check it out here: Walrus Droppings. update: September 15th, 2006 A BIG update today! Not one but two new paintings: One a digital illo of robots being attacked by zombies (in Portfolio 2) and a watercolor of Medusa as a child accidentally turnign her friends to stone (in Childrens' Art.) I mentioned in July that I was trying to finish a piece for WorldCon, and 'Young Medusa' was that piece. (I would have loved to finish Brian-Bots in time for that too, but oh well.) Also, another update to the Sketches page with several more pictures of women done for the Drawing Jam over on and another childrens' watercolor. While I'm updating what I've been working on, let me toss this up as well: ![]() This is my Meez. It's an animated avatar that you can post on your web site or blog or Myspace page, etcetera. This one happens to look just like me, but you can make yours look just like you. You can choose all sorts of clothes, accessories, hairstyles, aniamtions - from relatively true to life (like this one!) to really far-out settings and styles. Try it out at meez.com. Oh, and I just happen to be the Art Director there! :) update: July 7th, 2006 Well, I did finally get to see the ImagineFX article and it's a really wonderful spread, nice reproductions of the art and very flattering stuff to say about me. And as if my head needed to be any bigger, I just found out that my illustration 'Farewell Kiss' came in 4th place in the CGSociety Challenge! (You can see all of the winners here. Thanks to all involved with that award and to everyone who helped me along the way with advice and suggestions! update: July 1st, 2006 The latest issue of ImagineFX, a British magazine on science fiction and fantasy digital art, has some sort fo a feature article on my and my work. I haven't seen it yet, so I can't tell you much about it. But keep your eyes open for it! Also, my piece 'Farewell Kiss' has won a CG Choice Award over at CGSociety.org. Thanks, folks! Not much else new to report: I'm busy trying to get all of my artwork framed and matted (and one more piece finished! for WorldCon in L.A. at the end of August this year. update: May 30th, 2006 I've updated the Sketches page with some recent images, along with one not-so-recent pic that belonged on that page and somehow evaded detection 'til now. All just cute women, so if you're not into the cheesecake, move along. update: May 8th, 2006 Whew! I finally finished the piece that I've been working on for the CGSociety Challenge for the last two and a half months! I've got it up in the Portfolio 2 page, and have also made a rare update to the Downloads page to make it available as a desktop. I also did the cover for this months issue of Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine, an illustration for the Matthew Hughes story, 'Herd of Opportunity.' I don't have it posted yet, though... update: January 23rd, 2006 A couple of new things this week: First of all, CGSociety has posted a very nicely put-together tutorial on my Wage Slave piece (that's the one with Cthulhu in the office.) You can see the entire walkthrough of the painting, from concept to finishing touches, here. Secondly, I'm making a new set of prints available of my work. you can new got prints and mousepads of both The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche and Wage Slave. Additionally, you can get a nice Wage Slave mug with the Cthulhu image itself on one side and an image of the NecronomiCom Phone List on the other side. Check them out, if you're interested in such things. update: January 2nd, 2006 Happy New Year! I've completely redone my Links page ...because I know that's what you're all clamoring for: a quick exit away from this place. :-/ Coming really soon - mousepads, prints, mugs, etcetera, based on my artwork. Stay tuned...! update: December 26th, 2005 I finally finished my piece for the latest CGTalk Challenge, a piece entitled 'Prehistoric Fireworks.' Dinosaurs, Cave-people... lots of fun! Check it out. update: November 26th, 2005 Finally scanned in my latest children's image, a watercolor painting, for the site. Check it out here, at the bottom of the page. update: November 17th, 2005 Sorry I haven't updated the site in a while. It's the usual excuses: Quit my job, moved, now working eleven hour days. Same old same old. I've also been busy with a ton of work. I have a new watercolor or two that I really need to find the time to scan and show off here. I've got a cover in progress for Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine. And lastly, I've been working on another Challenge over at CGTalk. At least there's something to show for that. Check out the progress thread. update: September 2nd, 2005
My 'Wage Slave' image won a CGChoice Award on the CGTalk Site. It's a juried thing, not just given out to anyone, so I'm pretty flattered. It's also a great site, their forums are really wonderful and informative. Not much else new to add, though. Things've been pretty busy, so no other new updates...
update: August 2nd, 2005 Well, a sad day yesterday. Game developer Blizzard North closed its doors, to be subsumed by parent company Blizzard South in Irvine California. :-( On the plus side, I fortuitously quit Blizzard less than two weeks ago and am now somewhere else! And Blizzard yesterday released the Diablo 1.11 patch and is now featuring new artwork of mine at their site. You can download a new Andariel wallpaper here, or see it on my Diablo Art page. Anyhow, good luck to everyone from Blizzard North. Drop me a line and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. update: July 7th, 2005 Oh, hey, and speaking of awards (see below), I just found out that my watercolor painting 'Impromptu First Contact' has been nominated by the Association of Science Fiction Artists for a Chesley Award for Best Unpublished Color Work. Voting takes place over the next five days, so if you're an ASFA member, you can see the ballot here. And you can see my piece here. (Scroll down a little.) Big thank-yous to ASFA and everyone who nominated me! update: July 4th, 2005 That 'Wage Slave' piece I showed you two updates ago? It won an honourable mention in the internationally-enterred CGTalk Challenge! Thank you, CGTalk! You can see the results of the Challenge here, and the piece on my site here. update: June 17th, 2005 A new painting in the Children's Art section this time, a fantasy watercolor painting of two friends off on a trek away from the castle. I actually finished it after the last painting i posted, the one of the Skenchian General, but I just didn't get around to scanning and posting this one 'til now. update: May 13th, 2005 At long last, another update! I finished two new paintings this week: A digital one called 'Wage Slave' for a contest on the CG Talk site, a take on an office with Cthulhu as a manager. You can see that one on the Portfolio 1 page. And then in the non-digital world, I have a new watercolor to show, a Portrait of an alien General named Olfack Stenculus. That's on the Portfolio 2 page. And lastly, on the 3D and Game Art page, I found a bunch of animations from many of the characters that I worked on for Diablo II. They're nothing you can't find elsewhere on the web, but now they're here too, most appropriately! update: February 12th, 2005 Happy Valentine's Day! I have a new image up, specifically appropriate for the romantic holiday, in my Children's section. Enjoy! update: December 30th, 2004 Last update of the year: For anyone who might be interested in my artistic process, there's a contest going on at CGTalk.com where entrants are required to post their progress every step of the way and offer (and receive) constructive criticism from the general populace as they refine their images. The theme for the contest is a Grand Space Opera, and I've been working on a piece depicting aliens defending their homeworld from a swarm of marauding insectoid invaders. You can see my rough concepts, my thumbnails, even an entire abandoned mistep, all the way up through completed painting at my contest thread on their site. Happy New Year! update: December 23rd, 2004 Happy holidays! I have a couple of new updates snuck in before the end of the year: There's a new piece in Portfolio 2, a science fiction piece for a role-playing game called Blackwatch 2042. And there's a new piece called 'Cardboard Spaceship' over in the Children's section. This one is a runner-up in the latest contest over at the SCBWI site. Anyhow, wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year, and have a great time over the holidays! update: October 16th, 2004 I have yet another whole new section added onto the site. (Whew, you're gonna get spoiled with me adding such major stuff every month!) It's a section showcasing 3D artwork, much of which I've done on my own time for fun and not for profit. It's nice to show some other aspects of my artistic endeavors and not just the painterly stuff. Anyhow, you can find all this new work (and some of it not-so-new at all) in the 3D and Game Art Gallery. Enjoy! update: September 21st, 2004 Wow, this is a really fast update! Barely a week has gone by since the last one. Anyhow, now that I have the whole new Children's section, might as well fill it up with new art. You can check out my latest kids' watercolor painting, 'Field of Battle' there at the bottom. (And no, it's not what you'd think from the title.) Just for the record, anything you see that you like on my site (except for the Diablo stuff) is available in print form. I don't update the 'print' section of the site very often, but if it's not there, you likely can get it anyhow. Just e-mail me. And if you like the watercolor paintings, many of the originals are available too. update: September 12th, 2004 HUGE update to the page today, one of my largest in some time. There's a whole new portfolio art page to hilight my Children's Illustration. The page features many new paintings, both digital and watercolors. It's still a bit scant compared to other sections of the site which have had several years' head start. But I think you'll find many new additions to it in the coming months. (I've got another children's illustration in progress now, should be done in a week or two at most.) I also have one new piece in the Portfolio section of the site. It was a big hit at this past WoldCon, and one person told me that it was the funniest painting in the art show. So take a look and let me know what you think of all of the new pieces done in watercolor. It's a bit of a departure from all of the digital work that I've traditionally displyed here, so I'd love to hear from you all! update: August 10th, 2004 There's an old Inuit saying, "Sometimes the walrus hurts, and sometimes the walrus gets hurt." Today falls into the latter category. I have been asked by Blizzard Entertainment to remove from my site the whole section on concept art that I used to have up. I had full permission to show all of that art from a now-dead project, but new corporate policies forbid showing it and so the section must go. Bye-bye, Concept Art page! Hopefully in September, I'll have something new to replace it: I'm planning on a new section of the site showcasing my children's artwork portfolio. This section will focus on my watercolor paintings and will be a nice change from the dark and gloomy Blizzard images. Stay tuned for that... In the meantime, I'll be showing a lot of that work - the kids' watercolors, not the Blizzard concept art - at the upcoming Worldcon, Noreascon 4 in Boston. Come check out the Art Show, as I'll be showing (and selling!) a bunch of new paintings there (yes, real paintings, non-digital!) as well as affordable prints of 'The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche.' I'll also be speaking on a handful of panels: Interactive Fiction: The Nexus of Storytelling, Simulation and AI in Video Games Fridayat 1:00pm (I don't get it either, and I was passed over for the digital art panel! :-), Art for Video Games Saturday at4:00pm, and Pictionary Thursday at 11:00pm. Yes, that's 11 at night, what a fun time for a panel! Come and watch your favorite artist (i.e. me) fall alseep on the podium, yay! And what will I be showing at the 'Art for Video Games' panel now that I can't show Blizzard concept art? Well that's a damned good question! Heck if I know! ... No, actually, I have been digging up some good stuff, including some of my own personal stuff that I'm able to go into a lot more detail into how it was created because it was done on my own time. Anyhow, that's all for now. But just one more thing: That wasn't a real Inuit saying up at the top there, I just made it up. But then, you knew that, right? I'm so transparent. update: July 24th, 2004 A new promotional image done for Blizzard entertainment is up in the Diablo Gallery. It was an advertisement for a contest involving both Diablo and Worlds of Warcraft, and a fun chance to depict characters from both worlds. Let's see, what else is new? I've got a handful of new watercolors, but unfortunately haven't had the chance to upload them to the site yet, sorry! Pretty much a lot of my free time has been taken up getting them prepared to who at WorldCon this year, so you'll just have to stop by the art show and check them out, now won't you? In theory I'm also on a panel or two at the con, but no-one's yet given me any more info than that. Go figure. But I'm really excited about showing the watercolors. And I've been doing a lot more illustration in a childrens' book vein (as the entry below should indicate.) Anyhow, more updates later, but maybe not 'til September, after the con. update: June 12th, 2004 One of my new watercolors won 2nd place in a childrens' book illustration contest. The Society of Childrens' Book Writers and Illustrators has a contest on their site every month or so. This month's theme was "capturing a child's sense of wonder at the County Fair, the Zoo or the Circus." I don't have the illo up on this site yet, but you can see it at their contest site. update: April 3rd, 2004 Ooops, I forgot when I did the update a few days ago that I had made a new banner for the site. This should come as a great relief to all 2 and a half of you who have been dying to link to my site (okay, maybe not that many, but humor me.) Anyhow here it is: If you want a larger banner, you can grab one from the downloads page. update: March 31st, 2004 At long last, another update! Yes, I know that's getting to be a popular refrain around here... Thanks, April, for the kick in the pants to get more stuff up here. This time it's a bunch of color sketches, 'though many of them are quite finished pieces... Just not full-fledged paintings. But I've been working on those, too. Actual paintings, in fact! I'll be at WorldCon in Boston this year, and am already getting very excited about showing a whole bunch of new watercolor work... Stay tuned! update: November 17th, 2003 Wow, sorry it's been so long since the last update. I've been involved with a bunch of stuff that remains unfinished, or that is complete but unshowable because it's or work. Well, most of it is... This is one of those rare updates where I actually can show you something from work! The very seldomly updated Diablo Art section actually has a new update! Blizzard has had me doing some fun illustration work for them lately, so check it out (or not, as you so desire.) In other news, there's a new book out called The Chesley Awards: A Retrospective by John Grant with Elizabeth Humphreys and Pamela Scoville. As a past winner of the Chesley, my art is featured in the book. The entire collection is a really beautiful piece, great reprodutions of a lot of fantastic science fiction and fantasy art pieces, definately worth getting for any fan of the genre. update: August 13th, 2003 New update to the Portfolio section today: A watercolor painting that I finished about a month ago as a first anniversary present to my wife. That's right, I said watercolor: This is a departure for me, working in actual, tangible paints... but you'll see that stylistically, it's still me! In other news, just got my copies of Sheila finch's Reading the Bones yesterday. IPG did a really nice printing job: The cover came out great! Tachyon is also rereleasing Peter Beagle's The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche with a new cover design but still featuring my art. The Olympic Games cover (see 2 entries below) is done and looks fantastic, and both the author and the editor are all really pleased... as am I! So fun do covers for comic fantasy novels, I need to do some more. (Any leads, anyone? :-) Anyhow, I'll have that posted within the next month, stay tuned. update: July 9th through 11th, 2003 At long last, a new update... and a big one, too! I have completely redone the Concept section with a big bunch of new art and thumbnail navigation. It's all new stuff from another killed videogame project, one in a sting of far too many cancelled gmaes that have occupied the last several years of my job. Oh well, at least i have pretty pictures to show. Hope you like them! I've also uploaded a whole bunch of new color sketches. update: March 5th, 2003 Finshed the Varley illo and will be starting on a new cover soon for Leslie What's Olympic Games. In the meantime, a few new sketches have been added. update: February 9th, 2003 A new book cover has been added to the Portfolio 2 page! There is rejoicing in the streets! Yep, my first uploaded book cover in a long while, for Sheila Finch's upcoming Fall 2003 novel Reading the Bones, from Tachyon Publications and IPG. More new stuff soon, too, as I'm currently working on an image for a new John Varley book (and I am a big Varley fan, too!) update: January 19, 2003 Nine new images added to the Sketches page today, including your very first look at some images from my new hobby: Watercolors! Just short (3-hour) studies, still lifes with fruit and such, nothing very exciting, but I'm pretty happy with my progress. Not much else new to report, though. update: January 10, 2002 Happy New Year! It was a busy end-of-year for me: Working on another Sheila Finch cover, this one for a new novel of hers being published by Tachyon Publications (who else?) It might be a while 'til it comes out: The cover is needed for a Spring catalog but won't ship 'til fall of this year. Wow, what a wait. But I'll upload it to the site as soon as the catalogue is released. In the meantime, I've been very busy doing cartoony illustration. A lot of it is just for fun, and to share with folks on The Drawing Board, a web forum for cartoonists and illustrators. I've been hanging out there a lot lately, and working hard to have stuff to post. People there are great about giving helpful constructive criticism and I'd like to think my work has been improving because if it. I've uploaded most of those files to the Sketches page so you can see for yourself. I'll continue to update that page sporadically for the forseeable future, so even if you don't see an update note here, that page may be more recent. Enjoy! update: December 7, 2002 The end of the year is a time to reflect upon the work of the past year. From looking at this site, you would think that I've done very little. I've actually been quite busy, but the bulk of the work that I've done in the last year and a half or so has been concept fpr Blizzard. It will be a long time 'til I'm able to show much of it to anyone. And as I've been so busy with that, the cover art has fallen by the wayside some. However, it recently occurred to me that I do have a lot to show if I weren't so picky about it all being perfect before I display it. I've decided to open up a new section on this site to showcase all of the little unfinished, rough doodles and designs that I've been up to recently. As work has focussed on more realistic proportions and serious characters, my own personal work has taken on a much lighter, more cartoony tone. I hope you like the change of pace (It's been great for me!) You can see all of this new rough work on the Sketches page. update: September 2, 2002 It's amazing, it's unprecedented, two updates within a week and a half of each other! Well, I'm back from WorldCon. We had a wonderful time, got to see lots of old friends and made some new ones as well. I sold a couple of pieces and got to draw a picture on the birthday card of one of my idols, Kelly Freas. The panels were great, the parties were fun, and I got maybe eight hours of sleep total at the con. What more could you ask for (aside from more sleep?) So here's something new I'd like to try. It may be a hairbrained idea, but what the heck? So here's what I want to know: How would you like to be on a book cover? Or perhaps a magazine illustration, or maybe just some random piece of art? I'm looking for anyone who doesn't mind having their picture taken and who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you're interested, e-mail me a photo of yourself along with contact info. I have come to the realization that my illustrations could be a whole lot better if I worked from life a bit more often. So I'm going to try to get actual live people to pose for some of my pictures. On an illustration-by-illustration basis, I'll be looking for people who look kind of like the people in the book I'm doing an image for. I'll come to your house (or bring you over to mine,) set up some lights, maybe give you a costume to wear as befits the piece, and snap a roll of film or two. And that's it. So what sort of people do I need? Anyone! I never know what's going to turn up on my next assignment. The last one was an attractive woman in her late '20s. The one I'm working on now features a 3-year-old Indian girl (Asian, not American) and a woman in her '60s to '90s. (So I'f you're one of these, please act now!) But for everyone else, I never know what I'll need so feel free to send me those photos! I promise I will not do any work from the photos themselves: If I decide to use you, I'll contact you and set up a photoshoot. You, in turn, will get to be in the illustration, and you will recieve a copy of the book/magazine/print that you were on. Thanks for you help! update: August 26, 2002 ![]() It's the big, annual pre-WorldCon update! So much to fill everyone in on! For one thing, I'm not kidding about the logo on the right. I have been on TV this year! If you have had a chance to see any part of Comedy Central's Battlebots, it's likely that you may have seen my wife and I in the audience, cheering our lungs out for some of our favorite combatants, like Ziggo, T-minus, or the Judge. We were on-hand in the audience for the filming of season four of the show and often catch ourselves on our videotapes of the show. ("Look, honey, there we are again! Oooo, go to slow-mo!") Another big update, unsubtlely alluded to in paragraph prior: Yep, I'm married now. Talia, my partner of seven and a half years, and I tied the knot a few months ago. I've spent most of the year 2002 doing nothing more artistically inclined than working on our invitations (which were no small challenge and really, really cool, but not the sort of thing I put up on this site.) But anyhow, I hadn't mentioned it before and I just toss it out now as an explanation for why none of my recent updates have featured too much actual new art. But today it's an exception. I actually do have some new art to show... Well, kind of. In an effort to grow artistically, I've been teaching myself watercolors. One of my early experiements entailed taking an image I'd already completed digitally and redoing the whole piece in watercolors. It was a fun test, becuase I didn't need to think about layout or color choices which had already been made. I could focus solely on technique. The piece that I chose to redo is my newest, Beauty and the Beets 2. You can compare the original with the new watercolor version here. Lastly, WorldCon is in just a few days. It's local this year so I save a whole bunch on air-fare! I'm getting my art ready to show at ConJose in San Jose, California. I will have some of the usual stuff up in the art show, and then some of the new watercolor pieces too. Beauty and the Beets 2, mentioned above, will be shown there, along with some spot illos for a new, unannouced side-project. I'll also be speaking on a couple of panels relating to art for games and working with Art Directors. I am sadly not on the Win, Lose, or Draw (aka Pictionary or Science Fictionary) panel... Perhaps after my resounding victories at Aussiecon and Bucconeer, folks are 'fraid of going up against me... Bwa ha ha ha ha! (ahem.) Anyhow, hope to see folks at the con. Come see me at the panels, on the art show, or just hanging out with the Tach Pach at the Tachyon Publications booth in the dealers room, where they'll be seelling really cool t-shirts with my Tachyon logo on them. See you there! (or not.) update: June 24, 2002 It's been a while since I've updated the site, but life happens, y'know? Been busy with a lot of other things, like planning a wedding, getting married, going on a honeymoon, that sort of stuff. I've been doing a ton of art too, but it's all classified: Concept art for another new Blizzard product, which I of course can't show. I've also been fooling around a lot with watercolors on my own time, and hopefully I'll have some of that ready to show soon. I'll be showing new work at WorldCon again this year, where I am honored to be esteemed a Close Personal Friend of the Imaginary Guest of Honor.... Huh? Okay, the IGoH is Ferdinand Feghoot, hero of thousands of short shaggy-dog stories that inevitably end in a terrible pun. Well, who better to illustrate the master of terrible puns than a terrible visual punster like myself, earning me the aforementioned honorific. Anyhow, you can see the portrait at the ConJose site. Props to Bob Daverin of the ConJose staff who got the replacement color Feghoot up within minutes of it being e-mailed to him! Oh, and lastly, I've added a 'Your Walrus Hurt the One You Love' banner on the Downloads page, in case you want to include it on your site and link to me. update: April 13, 2001 Well, I have been so busy that I haven't had time to do much work outside of work in several months. I did, however, find a little time to enter a miniature design contest at the New Wave Miniatures site, one of my favorites. You can see my two designs, the Gnoll Commando and the Dark Skeleton Zombie Serpent-Wraith of Doom (scroll down for it) on their contest web pages. update: January 24, 2002 Hamlet. ...What news? Rosencrantz. None, my lord, but that the world's grown honest. Hamlet. Then is doomsday near. But your news is not true. No, unfortunately, the world hasn't grown honest by any stretch, but there is news. I have a new image up in the Archive 2 gallery. It's a cover that I did this past holiday season for another vegetarian cookbook , Beauty and the Beets. It's the sequel to last year's cookbook with the same title, which can also be seen on that same page. update: December 24, 2001 Happy Holidays! This will be the last update for the year... and what a year it's been! Diligent followers of YWHTOYL (all three of you) will have noticed that I didn't put up a lot of new work this year. There's a reason for that. This past year, instead of doing a lot of book covers, I've been doing a lot of concept artwork for various video gmae projects. Having been given permission to show you some of my work from now-deceased projects, I humbly present the new Concept Art gallery. Enjoy, and have a great New Year! update: November 1, 2001 My work is on display this month at Quantum Muse, where I am the Artist of the Month. Nothing of mine you can't see on this site, but there are a number of excellent artists who have previously been Artists of the Month and their work is worth checking out, too. update: October 24, 2001 A few brief updates today: This one I'm pretty proud of: This site has been awarded the first-ever ASFA Web Award for Best Artist Web Site. This distinction was announced (well, not really "announced" but printed up somewhere with the wrong URL) at the WorldCon a couple of months ago, but ASFA (the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists) just sent me the web emblem today. You can see it at the bottom of the page. Also, the show at Borderlands (see the October 17th update below) is coming down this Saturday afternoon, October 27th. Catch it quickly...! Lastly, and this impacts you the most, I have a new URL! You may or may not have already been automatically redirected (t)here. Mark your bookmarks, because from now on this site is www.michaeldashow.com everything earlier than October 2001 has been removed to save space |
